Madrone: Shield bearer

Use IPM (Integrated Pest Management) for successful plant problem management.

Biology
Shield bearers are moth larvae that mine out elliptical pupal chambers on the leaves. When pupal cells drop off, "shot holes" or small "windows" are observed on the leaves. Shield bearers usually cause only minor damage.

If damage should become severe or summer brings a prolonged drought, spring applications of imidacloprid may be warranted.
